Name: Deon Stander
Previous title: President and chief operating officer
New title: President and CEO
Avery Dennison’s board of directors elected Stander as CEO to fulfill a planned succession process following current Chairman and CEO Mitch Butier’s decision to retire. Butier will serve as the board’s executive chairman once Stander takes over as CEO on Sept. 1.
“I am honored by the opportunity to serve as Avery Dennison’s next CEO,” Stander said in an announcement on Wednesday. “We are well positioned as a company, with leading positions in growing markets, a clear set of proven strategies, a talented and agile team and a strong foundation for continued profitable growth.”
Stander joined the Ohio-based labeling and packaging materials manufacturer in 2007 with the acquisition of Paxar Corporation. He became president and COO in March 2022, a position that “is responsible for the company’s global business operations, with all business unit leaders reporting to him,” according to the company’s website. He previously held leadership roles in Asia, Europe and North America, including time as leader of the Solutions business.
“I could not be more pleased that Deon will be our next CEO. He has been a close partner of mine over the years, and is an outstanding steward of our values,” Butier said in the news release. “He is the right leader to ensure we reach even greater heights, and I look forward to supporting him and the company in my role as executive chairman.”
