CCL Industries closed its $44 million acquisition of Pouch Partners from a company owned by Capri-Sun Group on Thursday, according to a news release, along with two other deals this week.
Italy-based Pouch Partners, which supplies printed and laminated flexible film materials for pouch forming, reported $104 million in sales last year. The business will be known as CCL Specialty Pouches and become part of CCL Label's Food & Beverage unit in Europe.
In a prior announcement, CCL said pouches are seen as directly related to its label and sleeve decorating business, and customers have interest in the packaging format “as an interesting alternative to rigid containers with labels.” CCL could also expand the technology into its home and personal care business.
”If our investment is successful in Europe, there could be interest to develop the product line globally, alongside our decorative label portfolio,” said CEO Geoffrey Martin in a June statement.
Additionally, CCL announced the $38.1 million purchase of Creaprint on Thursday and the $7.1 million purchase of Oomph Made on Tuesday.
Creaprint is a mold-label producer with a manufacturing facility in Alicante, Spain, as well as a sales office in Miami. Creaprint reported $17 million in sales for 2022 and its approach is described by CCL as a “rapidly growing” technology. “The label becomes an integral part of injection or blow moulded plastic containers without the need for adhesives, typically using the same resin material as the container for easy recycling,” said Guenther Birkner, president of CCL Label Food & Beverage, in a statement.
U.K.-based Oomph makes RFID and near-field communication access cards and wrist bands, reporting $6.7 million in sales for 2022. The deal was described as a “bolt-on” addition to CCL’s Avery unit that will build on its “access control, badging and credentials technologies.” CCL acquired two related businesses from Avery Dennison a decade ago and has expanded the unit with multiple related deals since.
Canada-based CCL, which describes its focus as “specialty label, security and packaging solutions,” reported $6.38 billion in overall sales for 2022.
